White- breasted Nuthatch Sandy Cove. 118 Sandy Cove Rd 07:30 Saturday KK JW BM Ken Knowles, John Well and I made the trip Sandy Cove, Eastport Peninsula to see the White-breasted Nuthatch that showed up at a feeder on 23 April. The Napiers at 118 Sandy Cove Road. Feeders easy to view from the road in a row of larch trees bordering the driveway. The bird was present in the larches during most of our 2 hour visit. It does spend long periods of time sitting motionless in the thick twigs of the larches. It made several trips to a birch tree on the other side of the yard to drink sap leaking out of that tree. This is only the second record for Newfoundland and totally unexpected in spring and on a northeastward facing coast. It seems very at home where it was but who knows what is on the agenda of this bird. OTHER BIRDING Clarenville - the hybrid Tufted Duck x Ring-necked Duck was still present at the favoured sewer outflow along with a big flock of scaup (many Lesser). Little Hearts Ease - no sign of the Gray Heron in a 20 minutes search. It is likely still around somewhere in the area Arnolds Cove - nothing of note Bellevue Beach at low tide - 2 Bonaparte's Gulls (1 adult), 4 Black-headed Gulls (no adults) And that was our day. Interestingly saw only one Osprey all day. But about 15 Bald Eagles.
