First cycle. Photos. Diminutive "large Gull" with long wings, broad dark centers to scapulars with smooth pattern with narrow pale fringing. All black bill, flat head. Inner primaries all dark, secondaries blackish, noticeably contrasting with greater secondary coverts. Blackish tail with pale white uppertail coverts with limited black markings. Tertials black with narrow white margins. Face palish, except for darker auriculars creating a masked appearance.
