Seen among BB Plovers on the north side of Ballona Cr. about 100 yds. east of Pacific Br. at about 3:00 pm. This is the 7th consecutive year that a lone Pacific Golden-Plover has been seen along Ballona Cr, so seems to be the same returning bird. Very "golden" and smaller than BB Plovers. The tail is not white as with BB Plover. The undertail coverts in alternate plumage are not black to be an American Golden-Plover. The last photo shows its bill open, vocalizing, but I did not hear or record it calling. Here is the history of sightings from my post last year: Seen by Kevin Lapp on Sept. 4, 2023 posted on the between the 90 bridge and Lincoln Br. hotspot. A Pacific Golden-plover was first found by Kevin Lapp on Oct. 31, 2018, by Randy Ehler on Aug. 30, 2019, by Kevin Lapp again on Sept. 1, 2020, reported by Derek Hameister at this hotspot on Sept. 2, 2021 https://ebird.org/checklist/S94077170 -and by me at this hotspot on Aug. 28, 2022 https://ebird.org/checklist/S117732756 A Pacific Golden-Plover was seen on the salt panne on July 9, 2024 by Jim Hecht and others during the Ruff sighting, with one post at: https://ebird.org/checklist/S186354851. It is not clear to me that the July 9th bird is the same bird since it arrived so early, apparently without a large flock of BB Plovers and had not been seen since, but perhaps so.
