观察细节
I saw an odd-looking bird on the porch, as I was sitting at the kitchen table. The bird turned out to be some sort of fledgling, quite likely a thrush. I don't think it was an American Robin; it was quite brown, not grey. I took some photos, then opened the screen door to the porch. The bird hopped toward me, instead of moving away. There are "outdoor cats" lurking in this neighborhood, so I picked it up, whereupon it started making agitated, unhappy-sounding calls. At that point, the calls of the robin became more insistent, and I began hearing a Blue Jay calling as well. I carried the bird out to the trees behind the house, then placed it on a branch. It immediately hopped off the perch and began hopping about on the forest floor. I imagine that it will soon be snatched by a cat or a crow; it seems a bit too large to be prey for a jay, but I suppose a jay could peck it to death, then consume part of it. The likeliest bird species would be a Veery, although I have not seen or heard a Veery, or any other species of thrush other than American Robins, anywhere within a mile of this house, for well over a month and a half.
