Recording for my historical Texas County birding record. This bird was seen by many and was well-documented. At the time, it was determined to be the Third Record for Texas of this species, having been recorded in 1991 and 1993. Just past sunrise and from the east end of the campground, I scanned west along the lower branches of trees, watching for sallying-out behavior. I got on two birds doing this together about 100 yards away. One bird was a male Vermillion Flycatcher and the other was a ball of cinnamon with a tuft on its head, shining in the early sunlight! We rushed forward and stopped 30 yards away, and observed the Tufted Flycatcher repeatedly sally out, go to the ground, and return to the same perch for several minutes. My attached photo is blurry but it shows the flycatcher's colors.
