Got here just as the rain was getting lighter. Headed out to the peninsula (the only good spot to scan the shoreline) but a couple was already there huddled under an umbrella, so I decided to wait for a bit and scan swallows from elsewhere to see if they were leaving soon. The guy was on the phone ordering takeout Mexican food, just when he got to the “extra tomatillo with those flautas” part of the order a Cooper’s hawk came through and stirred up the shorebirds, most settled back down, but one shorebird flew away calling, and the call was unfamiliar to me. I managed to record the last few calls, did some comparisons, and it’s a good match for semipalmated plover, which fit as the bird appeared short billed as I watched it fly away. The peninsula was then vacated, but nothing else particularly notable remained on the shore. Audio attached.
