Amazing!! TRSW very loud and aggressively driving CANG from their nesting area. One swan continuously pulling wet dead cattails from margin of wetland piling it all near her feet while other chases CANG away when they get too close. Unfortunately this site is not very private and is likely easily accessible by preditors. Both adults were very aggressive in keeping the geese from where they had been nesting (seen on previous visit.) At one point both trumpeters chased the geese away. They returned to within 50m of the nest site where they were seen copulating twice. From there they swam to a different part of the wetland and I never saw them return to the nest site!. After submitting this report I returned to edit the details. When the swans went to a different section of the wetland, the geese eventually returned and one rebuilt the pile on which the Ztrumpeter had been building, rearranged the pile and sat down in it as if she is going to again reuse that same site to nest. Is nest building part of the mating ritual for Trumpeters and was this not really nest building? I will return soon to see who is occupying the nest site. Not sure if this should be changed to an A because they were certainly agitated and did copulate.
