观察细节
I observed this rare migrant while doing farm work. The whimbrel was likely attracted to the open grassy fields and extensive mud flats that have resulted from the rainy summer season. From the photos (screenshots from a video), it is apparent that the proportions are a clear match for a whimbrel. The bill is too long and curved to be an upland sandpiper, and the bill is too short to be a curlew. While whimbrels are rare migrants in inland Maine, there have been multiple confirmed observations in recent years. Fellow E-birder Jared Weisman (@jweisman) assisted in this description and in the identification, though the observation and recording of media was by me. Video is available upon request.
