NOTES: Neotropical Institute Cut # 17. Bulk reel: 27I believe this is probably the mate of the bird of Cut 16. It started singing the one-note repeated normal song up in the place where the other bird used to start singing. The first sound heard while I was recording Penelope purpurascens. When I heard this sound in background, I focused the parabola on the bird. It then stopped, flew to a new perch and started singing again, the same one-note repeated song. It changed position again, still sang same song. Quality: 1. Level: +5.b) Then after playback, the bird remained in essentially the same place and again sang the one-note repeated song.Playback of field tape w/ "dawn" songs itc could not cause the bird to come down to me either. For this reason and also because song sounds higher (must compare) I think this is not the bird that used to sing in this position but is rather the male, (mate of that bird) that normally was heard lower down hill and is now up in what was the female's territory, looking for her. (She was collected the week before.). Response to playback: No response.
