NOTES: Neotropical Institute Cut # 15. Bulk reel: 27Weather: Cloudy, fair. This is probably the same bird as in Cut 14. It was in essentially the same place. The first sounds from the bird were a few single notes, then it continued with two or three phrases with two notes and then went into this "dawn song" which is the same as the one it was singing yesterday when I arrived. Quality: 1-2. Level: +10.After it finished I waited a while and it then started to sing the same song. I played the previously recorded part and it dove over me just as yesterday. Its vocal reaction this time was to give sharp one-note "song" similar to that at end of Cut 14"b." Before I could "focus" on it and start recording, another bird farther down the hill started giving a one-note "song." The near bird apparently changed its perch so that it was not in focus when I started to record. Then during this recording its voice gets fainter and I think it must have flown on down the hill nearer to the second bird. *Note that the second bird seems to have a higher voice than the near bird.* Perhaps it is a female and the near bird a male.Note: No bird was heard AM of 17/11/66. Same for 21/11/66. A bird was heard AM 22/11/66 - see cut 16*Subsequent work (see cuts 14, 17, & 18) has shown that the inverse is probably correct: the near bird with the lower voice is the female and the far bird with the higher voice is the male. PAS.
