Continuing from previous checklist... I, Kim, found it (heard it and knew right away). FIRST MERCER COUNTY RECORD (2nd checklist). I found it on our hike and immediately (heard it) knew it was a White-winged Dove from our many trips to Mexico. It was singing: who cooks for you over and over. It was much larger than a Mourning Dove. It had big white wing patches - and white tips on the outer tail feathers when it would fly around. It did not make the Mourning Dove sound when it flew, and it would often glide. It was raising its tail and fanning it open and shut - and raising its wings. It went into a large, flimsy, platform nest of sticks (like a Mourning Dove's nest), would get in this nest, and was displaying. It would fly around to several of the same tree branches and sing. See pictures and video. See photos where it is beside a Mourning Dove and is much larger. I called Martin to come view it.
