Continuing wintering bird, present for at least 3 months now. I heard it calling from yards to the west almost from the time I arrived 30 min before sunset, but never saw the bird until about 5 min after sunset when it showed up in the Magnolia trees in front of 1025 Wellesley Ave, when I had great looks. Calls an insistent, monotonous, repeated, elongated downward "chyew". Unmistakable when seen: black warbler with deep red belly, big white patches on the wings, white undertail, white arc under the eye. It has clearly been feeding in eucalyptus trees, damaging the feathers on its face, particularly the forehead. Seems to have a routine when it comes to the same tree just after sunset, calls repeatedly while fanning its tail and rotating in place. I have photos and recordings.
