Medium sized shorebird, about size of lesser yellowlegs. Originally thought was a stilt sandpiper, but bill too short with slight droop like a pectoral. Long legs vibrant orange. In flight distinctive white U uppertail coverts. Dark based scapulars and tertials with rusty reddish barring. Most feathers look rather worn. Neck and breast gray/brown with black specks.
