Lovely find by Michael Adriaansen. Observed while in the company of numerous gleeful birder friends and colleagues. The bird was in the northern shallows of Lake Kirsty, adjacent to the osprey platform. Roughly half the size of a nearby great blue heron. Unusually long neck and bill; blue-gray head, neck, back, and wings; vertical white line along the front of the neck; purple at the base of the neck; white belly. Photos included with checklist.
