观察细节
A call from thick understory caught my attention towards the end of our time at the park. The call was an assertive and robust "chup" call that recalled Kentucky Warbler and Swainson's Warbler to my ear. In this area, both would be considered rare, but Kentucky is still far more likely than SWWA. Initially I thought that the call sounded more like an Ovenbird, but as I listened and got closer to the call, it sounded like less of the "thack" call of an Ovenbird and more of the "chup" or "chep", with a hard "chh" and emphatic "p". The call was one note, given a few seconds apart on and off for about two minutes. I could never get a view of the bird, and it appeared to be moving low through thick understory. Other birds with smacking calls like MacGillivray's, Brown Thrasher, Lincoln's and Fox Sparrows were considered as well. This bird was heard in the vicinity of the ditch by the back parkinglot/group pavilions area (36.323966, -115.263311).
