Found by Rick Williams on Sunday 16 August 2020 and identified as Common Noddy. No photos were taken at that time but the description provided clearly fitted a noddy. Marc and Vikki Gardner were first on site this afternoon and refound the bird. It was then observed by all of us and many other birders at close range (seen by at least 15 people). The bird was very worn but was actively preening and was alert. Dark tern with bold white cap. Overall plumage coloration was brown with a grey nape and hindneck and a bold white cap. The white cap reached the bill and extended over the crown. Black lores were prominent ruling out Lesser Noddy A. tenuirostri. Lower white eyering. Bill was black, long and thin, and matched the bill length and shape of Black Noddy. We considered this feature adequate to eliminate Brown/Common Noddy A. stolidus. Legs were pinky-salmon. This is the first Northern Territory record on eBird, and the first record for Darwin.
