Rare:\\ In the 30 years of record keeping for Mount Desert Island, this is the first Pink-footed Goose (Anser brachyrhynchus) accurately documented by many expert birders and ornithologists in modern time. It was a pre Acadia Birding Festival (May 28-31, 2020 cancelled due to Covid19)) rare bird. Rare Birds have become a tradition for the festival weekend. (Remember Black-bellied Whistling Duck 2012) This bird was first seen and reported by Craig Kesselheim, Will Russel, Becky Marvil, Bruce and Toni Evans, Debbie and Ed Hawkes, Don Lima, Billy Helpren and Nathan Dubrow were all present initially. Good photos from the adjacent forest . Pink legs and feet photos. Contrasting cinnamon brown head and light brown ruffled neck, prominent white undertail coverts with some white on the trailing edge of the wing coverts, when folded become a mostly light gray back. The folded wings and back of the much smaller Pink-footed Goose are flatter then the larger and more rounded back of CANG. Great find and a LIFE BIRD on MDI for everyone I believe.
