观察细节
**Rare inland, 2nd county record. #199 for county. When I first arrived I immediately noticed two gulls on the water associating with the four female Red-breasted Mergansers. I immediately noticed through binoculars that they had black hoods. I was quickly able to eliminate Bonaparte's due to the bold eye rings of both birds, larger size, and heavier, reddish bills. However, at first they were difficult to distinguish from Franklin's Gulls as they appeared to have an extensive amount of white on the primaries. They primarily floated on the lake and would drift east and slowly drift back to the center of the lake, almost always facing me, so making out the details on the primaries was difficult. Eventually after about an hour and a half of watching, they took flight in the wind and I was able to clearly see a darker undersing and limited white on the primaries. Several photos taken, all poor quality, but identifiable.
