Silvereyes feeding in a fig tree. Silvereyes (Zosterops lateralis) are part of a widespread species complex that occurs across southern Australia, in eastern Australia, New Zealand and the adjacent Pacific Islands. They usually travel in small flocks in habitats with sufficient shrubby vegetation, looking for fruit, nectar and insects. In southern Australia they are often considered pests because they attack domestic fruit crops, particularly grapes and figs. These birds were feeding on the ripening fruits of a feral cultivated fig tree on the southern edge of Herdsman Lake, near Perth, Western Australia. Elevation: 7 m. Date added to IBC: April 21, 2019.
