An Australian Hobby perching in a swaying Tuart tree. The desert and north-western race of the Australian Hobby (Falco longipennis murchisonianus) is paler than its more southerly distributed counterpart. The species is found in a wide range of habitats throughout Australia, preferring open country with scattered trees such as watercourses, and urban areas. Hobbies catch aerial prey, particularly small birds, but also take insects and insectivorous bats. After having finished eating a small bird, probably a Tree Martin (Petrochelidon nigricans), this Hobby allowed a close approach as it sat on a swaying branch of a Tuart, Eucalyptus gomphocephala. Elevation: 7 m. Date added to IBC: October 15, 2019.
