Brown Quail pair on grass and soursob. Brown Quail (Coturnix or Synoicus ypsilophora) is a common Australian bird that is more often heard than seen because it is usually concealed from view in its preferred habitat of dense grasslands. This is not the case in the Cheynes Beach Caravan Park on the south coast of Western Australia – several pairs may be seen on most days, foraging on the lawns and edges of native vegetation throughout the park. As with other true quails, females are larger and more strongly marked than males. A Brown Quail call may be heard in this clip. Elevation: 0 m. Date added to IBC: October 1, 2018.
