Australian Ringneck (or Twenty-eight Parrot) perching - view of the whole bird. The Australian Ringneck (Barnardius zonarius) is a large, broad-tailed parrot with several different forms distributed across its range, although all of them have a yellow collar around their hind neck. Their calls also vary geographically. This bird belongs to the south-western Australian race (Barnardius zonarius semitorquatus), known locally as the Twenty-eight Parrot because one of its calls is described that way. Ringnecks eat a wide variety of seeds, eucalypt blossoms and fruits, and are often pest in orchards because they attack apples and other cultivated fruits. This Twenty-eight Parrot was sitting in a Persimmon Tree. Elevation: 249 m. Date added to IBC: May 3, 2018.
