观察细节
This large loon was smaller than a Common Loon and appeared to be larger than or equal in size to a Pacific, although there was not one there to directly compare to. General appearance was dark above and light below. The bird had a dark mantle with some linear spotting creating faint bars. When swimming regularly the light flanks were obvious even at great distance. The light flanks extended up the sides highest near the rump. These light patches on the flanks were seen especially well when the bird would dive. This could be seen during normal swimming and during foraging. There was no chin strap on this loon . The demarcation running down the side of the head and neck was pretty even or straight with little variation. The head shape was somewhat blocky in structure and the mostly blue gray bill didn¿t appear to be proportionately ¿large¿ but that could be due to a sexual characteristic but I don¿t know for sure . There was no dark stripe or band across the vent area of this loon.
