There was a male TUFTED DUCK at 3 this afternoon exactly where Dave describes. Quite a shock. You can view the pond by walking out the Waxmyrtle trail from the campground of the same name. There is a Snowy Plover sign that marks the spot. Ducks are very timid here, so approach gently. The Tufted Duck was with a male and female LESSER SCAUP and 4 GW TEAL. We saw it only for a few minutes and then it flew off as we attempted to get photos. The tuft was seen well, as were the white flanks contrasting with the black back. We noted how round the head appeared compared to the scaup. It had lots of white in the wings when it flew south. We could not relocate it in the deflation plane behind the fore dune, but there is a ton of habitat out there. We will check for it again tomorrow AM. Also on the pond edge was a BLACK BRANT looking surprisingly faded. Looked like a July Brant.
