***Review bird in Michigan, second county record. This bird has now been confirmed as a Red Phalarope! Found by Cathy Theisen this afternoon. Scott Jennex, Sarah Toner, Dan Sparks-Jackson, Dea Armstrong, Chris McCreedy, Andy Dettling all witnesses. The thickness of the bill on this bird, the smooth gray on the back, and upturned eye "stripe" are evidently enough for this to be a Red Phalarope! Bird was foraging on land, occasionally dipping into the water to swim around. Close enough for good scope views and poor photographs (one embedded below). Other features of the bird included gray crown that extended down to its neck, a grayish "stripe" that was next to the neck, plain gray scapulars, and white underparts. Legs were not black. If nobody else is going to document it to the MBRC, I will do so.
