Remarks: This species has been eluding me like the man-eating Leopard of Rudraprayag! I have been trying to get an image of this bird in several places for several years without a single picture. Finally, after a half-day effort in Thattekad with Eldhose in the lead I managed a series of interesting pictures. Here is the first. Possibly the only image of a peninsular bird I had to struggle North-east style! Incidentally, this is the biggest of the three laughers endemic to the Western ghats. This bird is built more along the lines of the NE laughers (like Rufous-vented, Chestnut-backed, etc.) and not like its geographically closer cousins (Nilgiri and Grey-breasted). Comments welcome! - RS. Equipment: Canon EOS-1D Mark IV + 500mm + 1,4x + monopod. Date added to OBI: April 22, 2011. Original OBI location name: Thattekad Bird Sanctuary, Kerala, India.
