Деталі спостереження
Found by Kaiyote Snow at 2:30 pm in small shore pines along Olympic Discovery Trail, near administrative offices for McKinley Mill (formerly Nippon Mill). Actively feeding on pine seeds pulled from cones. Classic MOCH, very gray wings above, and gray breast and belly below, with no hint of buffy or brown. Prominant white supercilium circling around to rear sides of head but not all the way to nape, with black mask through eye circling around to nape. Top view down on head resembles RB Nuthatch. White superciliaries extends forward on each side to almost meet above the bill. Narrow black chin and throat contrasts with big white cheeks. May be molting tail feathers. Carolyn recorded call notes - scratchy hoarse notes. Thanks Kaiyote of kaiyotetours.com, who knows MOCH from her time in Rocky Mountain National Park!
