Continuing rarity, first spotted on Dec 8 by Kevin Dixon and Ron Lindeman. Large immature loon, mostly grayish brownish with scalloped barring on back. Appeared a bit higher in the water than a Common Loon. Blocky head with pale face and throat. Slightly upturned bill, creamy colored at tip, and appeared more yellowish when backlit. Diving frequently. Seen first from the Club Nautique side of Ballena Bay and then from the boat launch area. With thanks to Jeff Manker for giving us our first views through his scope!
