This was the only brownish gull among a sea of ring-billed gulls. The head is fairly round, the bill is relatively petit, and the scapular pattern is more common for a Thayer's than a Herring at this time of year. The tail is brownish rather than black. Thanks to Clinton Dexter-Nienhaus and Gerry Hoekstra for help in identifying this bird.
