Pectoral Sandpiper
Деталі спостереження
Large sandpiper with longish yellow legs, shortish bill slightly dropped and orangish at base, streaking on breast with abrupt edge at white belly, and feathers with solid white edges on wing and scapulars. In flight, the white sides of the rump contrasted with the brown central plumage of the tail. Eliminated Lesser Yellowlegs by a number of features, including the structure of the bill. Lesser Yellowlegs has a very straight, very thin bill, while this bird had a shorter thicker bill with orangish color at the base. It also differs from Lesser Yellowlegs by smaller size, shorter legs, complete white edges on feathers rather than checked, and lack of barring on tail. Did not have the spotted appearance of a Lesser Yellowlegs. The head and neck had a chunkier appearance than that of a Lesser Yellowlegs, as well. Lacked dark shoulders, more spotted plumage on wings and scapulars, dark underwings in flight, tail pattern, or dark face with prominent eye ring of Solitary Sandpiper, nor did it exhibit any of the bobbing behavior characteristic of that species. Shorter bill and presence of dark central tail stripe in flight eliminates juvenile Stilt Sandpiper. The yellow legs and bill shape rule out Baird's Sandpiper.
