Photo. Saw two adult grouse, one barely seen, the other appeared to be a brown female running and taking short flight hops away from me. Shortly afterward, 5 medium size birds flew up from near the road into trees on other side of the road; one was briefly visible and I was able to photograph it. However, we mistakenly thought these were juvenile ovenbirds (about same size and light coloration), until I examined the photos recently. On consultation with Tom Berriman, and his consultation with 3 other experts, the conclusion is that these are ruffed grouse.
