Flew up to front window where I was working around 8:15am, where it was entirely silhouetted, but clearly something interesting. I went outside with binoculars and camera and it returned after a few minutes, feeding on the bottlebrush and flying up into the pine overhead to perch and preen. Also visited the adjacent Texas ranger sage, oleanders bordering the neighbor's yard, or palo verde on the street. Several times flew up to edges of window (looking for arthropods?). Never visited hummingbird feeder right in front of window. John Groves arrived in time to watch it for a few minutes. Last seen flying from the pine back toward the backyard. I know others stopped by while I was at work, but I'm not aware of any sightings after 9am. A relatively stocky hummingbird with a long, decurved bill. Dark/dusky overall. Dark green upperparts and green gorget, obvious rufous in wings, buffy belly, white undertail coverts, glossy purplish tail, and mostly dark bill. Called several times, a short trill or rattle - "jrrrt".
