Деталі спостереження
dull Blue-headed type vireo. dull grayish head and greenish mantle and little contrast between them, weakly contrasting gray malar with white throat, pale but definite lemon wash along sides and rear flanks. photos forthcoming. I was really surprised to find this bird, having just seen a typical lead gray Plumbeous in shady trees along the same dry creek but on the opposite side of the road. I hit a vireo jackpot because the Warbling was in the same tree as the Cassin’s. lighting in my photos is unfortunately poor due to both shadow and glare, but I believe they show the features outlined above that I observed in better light, including dull greenish or yellowish edges on the folded secondaries. I'm certainly open to correction because my experience with Cassin's Vireo is very limited. I've probably seen fewer than 5 individuals in my entire life, and never in the Pacific NW where one can be certain of the ID. on the other hand, I have extensive experience with the other two species in the Solitary Vireo complex. I understand that very dull Cassin's can appear very similar to Plumbeous (and maybe vice versa?), but my initial impression when I spotted this bird in good light was Blue-headed Vireo.
