Деталі спостереження
Recorded and photographed. Made whit and dew-hic calls. Very similar to Hammond's but longer bill, shorter primary projection giving a longer tail appearance, rounder head. Above globe lily trail. Heard two calling at once, saw one. EG notes: I first heard one individual giving call notes and the occasional “dew-hic” call upslope off trail from us (roughly here (37.9110824, -121.9507484) We wandered off trail to get closer and came across two counter calling, giving primarily “whit” notes but also a few more “dew-hic” notes. There was also a hafl in the area calling and giving snippets of song. We were finally able to get views of one dufl and may have seen both, but only ever had one in view. The vocalizations are diagnostic, but the longer bill, longer tail/shorter primaries, and more brownish tinge to the plumage stood out in contrast to the more abundant hafl. Also seen flicking tail upwards at points.
