Photos. Tentatively identified to species. In contrast to the vast majority of LBDOs, this bird was mostly in basic plumage and so it stood out as being pale gray. We thus weren't left with too many plumage clues to try and distinguish this from LBDO, but the bird did contain a few long coverts and tertials that were replaced on one side, which seemed to indicate SBDO. Update: Jim got some good documentation of this bird, showcasing bold, wide, orange 'tiger' striping on the two replaced tertials and one greater covert (left side) and more intricate orange markings to a couple coverts on the right side. Compared to the standard, v-shaped barring on LBDO coverts, these replaced coverts have squiggly longitudinal markings; that said, I'm not sure that this is a standard fieldmark. Additionally, when adjacent to a LBDO, we both thought it looked distinctly slimmer. This would be only the second SBDO reported at the Pits so far this spring.
