Деталі спостереження
Continuing bird found by Sasha Cahill and Kellen Apuna on 10/14/23. The bird was in the same location as previously described since its discovery, the most northerly corner of Allen Marsh (40.8603471, -124.0933224). It was the first bird I saw upon arrival, silently floating and foraging on duckweed by itself. After I went back to the car and came back for better looks when the rain let up, it took me 20-30 minutes to re-find the bird. I never saw the bird strongly associating with other teal (as others have described). Small teal-type dabbling duck. Characteristics that most strongly stuck out to me vs other fem/nonbreeding teals: pale throat that contrasted rather sharply with the bird's neck and head; striking white 'comma' above and behind the eyes; faint black line coming up from base of bill which gave the impression the bird was smiling like some sort of evil (but cute) clown.
