Деталі спостереження
First county record (and first Dec record for CA) documented by Gary Bloomfield yesterday with excellent photos and recorded vocalization. I had wrote a whole description and circumstances but then the internet went out and that all went away so I'll be brief for now. Description: Overall the bird gave the impression of a small short-tailed and compact empidonax, seemingly shorter-tailed than a Western Fly. The back and head was seemingly a brighter green color with a distinct yellowish eyering that seemed even around the eye for the most part. In some others photos it seemed to have a little bit of a teardrop shape at the rear of the eye. The wings were very dark and blackish with whitish wing bars and a broad dark panel bordering the lower wing bar. The secondaries lacked any edging on them and the primary formula of two distinct gaps were easly seen and photographed (vs. the single wide gap in Western). In good lighting the underparts weren't necessarily very yellow and the brightest yellow seemed to be in the throat and breast. In the shade the bird appeared a lot more yellow on the underparts. The bill seemed shorter and maybe broader than a Western. The lower mandible was completely orange underneath. At times it seemed pretty round headed but at other times it could show a somewhat crested look. The bird never vocalized. Bird spent time between here: (40.8951677, -124.0780462) and to (40.8969015, -124.0770940) with incredible views here at eye level from only 10-15 feet away: (40.8966703, -124.0768084). More details on behavior etc. later. One photo added so far with more to come. Details and photos to be submitted to the CBRC.
