Деталі спостереження
2nd Shemya and 4th North American record. First seen while driving Runway B. Very poor looks at an "interesting" bird that had a heavy undulating flight and reddish back and tail. Similar in size to LALO. We walked all over the area but couldn't turn it up. It continued to eat at me all day, and after work we went back out to keep looking. We looked all over Runway B and then went to The Steps to see if it turned up there. Sure enough, as we pull up, I see the bird flying up the bluff and landing on top celery at runway level. I managed a few photos before it flew over the bluff and disappeared over the runway somewhere. Challenging looks and not so great photos, but features seem consistent with Red-backed over other possibilities. Grayish nape contrasting with back, heavy barring on the back and flanks, pale lores, brownish (not black mask), and pale edging to the outer retricies in one poor flight photo.
