NOTES: Neotropical Institute Cut # 7. Bulk reel: 58; Extra cut length: 4:40 BStream hiss in background throughout.a) 10:30 PM. Two pairs of these owls seemed to be participating in a natural song duet. Note that with each pair (one in background and one in foreground) one bird has a higher and one a lower voice. This duet had been going on for a long time before I found a spot close to the birds. Quality: 2. Level: +5.Then further recording after playback; first focused on the higher-voiced bird, then ~ between them. Quality: 1-2. Level: +5.b) 11:30 PM. I then shot at the high-voiced bird but apparently missed as was far away. Anyway, I saw the bird fly away. About an hour later and after more playback, a pair started singing in same place. I believe it is the same pair. Quality: 1-2. Level: +5.c) Further recording of the high-voiced bird of this pair most prominent. The parabola is intentionally slightly "off-focus" to reduce distortion (emphasis of high frequencies). Also heard are the low-voiced bird of this pair and another high-voiced bird in background. The high-voiced bird was then collected and proved to be a female. The recording concludes with the low-voiced bird that was left: first, right after collecting the other bird, and then about an hour later. During most of this interim it was silent.
