Деталі спостереження
Heard since 9, assumed it had to be an unfamiliar frog as it was calling across the lake and the NSWO I’ve heard are much quieter but over an hour I recorded and realized this was a Saw Whet. Consistent tooting stopping at times then kicking back up again. Fluctuations spot on for Saw Whet with the occasional stutter and the start of every sequence very loud and clear. Saw Whet Owls are brutal at showing us how poorly we understand our states nocturnal birds. There is Balsam Beartown on this ridge line to the west which I assumed had Saw Whets and hope to confirm on a hike later this summer. I think high elevation ridges despite serious evergreen presence have a Saw Whet likelihood. Tooting still at around 230am
