Estimated. One of these was probably either a Tufted Titmouse or a Baltimore Oriole. I heard, but did not see this bird. It was calling the typical Tufted Titmouse peter peter call that I grew up hearing in southern IL and was just listening to at my sister's house two weeks ago. I tried to get the bird to fly out to an Audubon broadcast of a Tufted Titmouse call, but it did not. I searched the white pine the bird was in and saw a number of small birds moving around, but could not find the bird that was calling. The bird flew off while I was trying to get another recording of it with my phone, landed and called again from out of sight. This process repeated several times with the bird moving farther and farther away in the distance, always out of sight. The call sounded perfect to my ear for TUTI, was an excellent match for the Audubon broadcast, and was identified as TUTI by Merlin (for what little that's worth. - Merlin and I are both quite fallible). I am submitting this bird along with the Merlin recording I made of it so that others are aware of its potential presence and will (I hope) look for it, and in the hope of receiving feedback from others as to what they think of the recorded call. I have on at least three occasions heard a Baltimore Oriole that I was observing give a very convincing TUTI call. I checked to see what Merlin would do with it on one of those occasions. Merlin mistakenly identified it as TUTI. However, the Baltimore Oriole versions that I have heard of a TUTI call have been "fatter", fuller, and louder than that which I heard today and have previously heard from visually verifiable TUTI.
