Деталі спостереження
Unmistakable juvenile bird. Large body, long neck, all brown above, white belly, large bill and pouch. Likely the same one seen up river in Clackamas Co yesterday. I came to look for dark-mantled gulls and instead was surprised by this goofball loafing around the docks! I just got to the Riverplace Marina Public Dock and first checked out gulls on the water and after a few minutes I turned to look at perched gulls on the dock when I found the BRPE in the center of it all. A bit of drama ensued with a CAGU chasing it off relentlessly up river and out of sight towards Ross Island for at least 10 minutes, bird flew back, then off again, back to the dock, flew down river, and then finally landed on top of the Hawthorne Bridge where it stayed until I left. It did seem to be in good health when it was on the docks, but it's wing was drooped later while resting on the bridge (although not sure if that indicates anything since the bird was flying fine). Hope it can find it's way to wintering grounds soon! Enjoyed the bird with Andrew, Audrey, Tom, Brodie, and random passerbys who were delighted to see a pelican.
