atypical song
Деталі спостереження
Initially heard first and bypassed for a short, atypical Brewer's Sparrow song. A couple hours later was passing through same area and heard again, this time seeing it skylark while singing the unrecognizable song. This stopped me in my tracks and spent 45 minutes viewing, recording, and photographing. Fairly drab overall with finely streaked crown and speckled, messy back. Coverts edged with white and slightly rounded tail with faint white on the terminal ends of the outer tail feathers. Orange-pink feet. Bird would perch prominently or skylark to sing, but then skulk in bitterbrush to forage. Active throughout a 50 diameter, using 5-6 specific shrubs as song posts. Recorded song is atypical, though did manage to record part of a chattery, complex song. Perhaps a young male yet to hone in on the typical song ending that is diagnostic.
