Деталі спостереження
Edit: This bird was originally entered as a Short-tailed shearwater based on some encouraging responses I received from fellow birders. The consensus from experts has been that this bird cannot be separated from Sooty on the basis of photos. I have left my original description below along with comments I received from Gary Nunn. Seen flying just ahead of a few BVSH at 7:59. Obvious Sooty/Short-tailed Type. What initially caught my attention was the pale chin in combination with light underwing restricted to the central part of the underwing. Held wings at a slight angle at the Carpal Joint. Head & Bill shape indiscernible due to distance. From Gary Nunn: "I think it does look like a STSH -- the darker capped look, pale chin, wings held a bit crooked at the carpal joint, not the straight saber like power wings of a Sooty Shearwater. Another feature of STSH is often a paler brown panel look to the upperwing secondaries panel, contrasting with the rest of the upperwing which is darker... I don't know how Orange County handles these. But I am confident you have ID'd it correctly."
