Деталі спостереження
Subadult male. This bird has apparently been at this residence since the weekend. The inner primaries are noticeably narrower than the outer, narrowing this bird to the genus Archilochus (Ruby-throated or Black-chinned). Gray-green back with drabber crown. The face lacks contrast between the cheek and crown, forming a pseudo line behind the eye. Perched, the tail extends slightly beyond the wingtips. Outer three tail feather tipped white. In flight, the bird pumped it’s tail nearly constantly. Slight buff on sides. Breast and belly pale. Throat pale and stippled, as in juvenile birds. Throat completely juvenile except few gorget feathers coming in on lower left side, which appeared black from nearly every angle. In only a few photos could the violet-blue iridescence be seen. Second confirmed state record and the first confirmed male.
