Note orange lores and extensive mass of orange in the lower mandible. The white outline at the base of the bill, at a distance, could look like the ">" of a NECO, but this thin white ">" is consistent with immature or juvenile DCCO birds.
Деталі спостереження
Five seen in the stobs near the dog park as we entered the area. Eight same-sized Cormorants seen on one stob as we left the area, so we used 8. All birds had yellow or orange in the lores. No birds seen or photographed had dark lores of the Neotropic species. All flying birds had relatively short tails versus the length of the head and neck, consistent with DCCO. At least one immature was visibly smaller that a close-by adult, but all other fieldmarks were consistent with DCCO. Many of the birds showed some white at the base of the bill, a potential source for an ID of NECO, but all the other fieldmarks were consistent with DCCO. The size difference would be evident for a mixed flock, but all 8 birds, especially seen together, were, basically, the same size. All photos by De.
