One or maybe two empids are shown in the photos. One observation was of a bird in the northeast corner of the eucalyptus grove near (34.4307388, -119.8894342). Nick Lethaby and David Compton, who were standing to my left somewhat closer to the bird, were initially leaning toward Least Flycatcher for the ID. This bird is shown in the first four photos, and also in the last four photos, all of which were taken between 11:19 and 11:20 a.m. In these photos the bird is facing the viewer. The possible second bird, which I initially lumped together with the first bird because I overlooked the difference in timestamps on the photos, was photographed along the north edge of the eucalyptus grove at 12:01 p.m. This is the bird shown in the two photos where the bird is facing away from the viewer. Update: After getting much-appreciated feedback, I'm putting the number back to one, on the theory that all the photos show the same bird, which is likely an interesting-looking Pacific-slope Flycatcher.
