Деталі спостереження
Small peep with buffy head flying around near the pond, occasionally landing. Constantly vocalizing. Refer to recording to see two main call types. The first being a trill-like call. The second being a one-element "laugh" call, which sharply rises in frequency, before dipping, and then ending in another peak. The laugh calls in the spectrogram of my recording are identical to the laugh calls depicted in Miller et al. 1988 (https://doi.org/10.2307/3676719), which goes into great detail on the vocalizations of the Baird's Sandpiper. Furthermore, similar Calidris sp. which could be confused for BASA in appearance, such as SESA, PESA, or WESA do not make calls similar to the "laugh" call depicted in this recording.
