Easily one of the most memorable birding experiences either of us has ever had. Arrived at the overlook in extremely heavy fog, to our disappointment -- but this was quickly dispelled when Will spotted a condor perched on a rock down the cliff. This bird was soon joined by another, and then the miracle began. Standing motionless at the overlook, we were treated to a hard-to-believe show as this pair of condors patrolled their territory, swooping low back and forth over the cliffs. As the waves crashed and the sea-lions brayed below, these ancient raptors of incredible size appeared and disappeared in the heavy white fog, looking down at us meek humans with disapproving red eyes. The first picture, by Will, was taken ON HIS CELL PHONE -- at times, the condors were swooping so low we could stare straight into their eyes, and hear the air whirring between their massive flight feathers. I was filled with awe and wonder at these majestic creatures so at home in their equally majestic habitat, and gratitude that the two are still joined. The individual condors were Green-20 "Ninja" and Yellow-4 "Amigo".
