Деталі спостереження
I spotted this bird when it was sitting on a electric pole wire. At first I thought of it as a eurasian hobby and clicked a photo to be sure, when I zoomed in on the picture I saw a noticeable beak and feet colour which was reddish orange. I was sure at that time and eliminated Eurasian hobby. Another thought that made me sure it was Amur falcon was because a few days back another birder from Ladakh spotted Amur falcon at spituk which was a male. So, i somewhat had the idea that it could very well be a Amur falcon. Another confusion was if it was a red footed falcon? But after carefully examining the pictures and taking several books and information as reference I eliminated red footed falcon also. The main characteristics of Amur falcon was that it hovers in the sky at least 4-8 meters high from the ground and descends down towards ground catching insects. I found it was feeding on insects in an open grassland area. It was catching the insects and eating in mid air and then came to rest back to the electric poles.Either a female or First year male. A beautiful raptor feeding on insects.
